Thankfully, I bought a telephoto lens recently and was able to capture a pretty decent shot of the comet.

So last night I hooked up this old PCI RAID controller card in my computer. Basically, I am using it because my motherboard only comes with one ATA/IDE channel (replacing it with a bunch of superior SATA channels). I have a bunch of old IDE hard drives sitting around with reasonably high capacity, so now I’ve got two extra channels.

Now of course, Vista doesn’t have drivers for a card that could be around 10 years old. After I installed the hardware, it searched my computer for drivers. Not finding any, it said that the install failed. I figured I’d have to throw the drives into a headless linux box I have under my desk. A few minutes later, however, Vista said, “Hey, remember that card you tried to install?” It helpfully provided a direct link to the Vista drivers on the manufacturer’s website. I didn’t even know what the card was called until that window came up as I snagged it out of an old junker computer. Now it works great.

Google Reader, the online RSS reader just added cool tweaks.

You can now search your subscriptions. This was a feature that was strangely absent from a web app written by a company whose business is centered around a search engine (yes, I know they’re really an ad company). This is far more useful for me than their blog search as I won’t get as much garbage, just the blogs I’m subscribed too.

Unread counts now go up to 1000 instead of saying 100+ when you get over 100.

Forward and back buttons work! This is not an entirely trivial thing to add to an all Ajax application like Reader, but I’m glad it’s there.

I’ll let the original article speak for itself:

Just as the Citizen Bank branch opened Saturday morning, a man walked in with leafy boughs duct-taped to his head and torso, and robbed the place.

“He really went out on a limb,” police Sgt. Ernie Goodno said Sunday.

Police said the leafy man didn’t saying anything about having a weapon, just demanded cash, and was given an undisclosed amount.

Although the branches and leaves obscured much of the man’s face, someone who saw images from the bank’s security camera recognized the robber and called police.

I’m disappointed by the lack of puns though (except the obvious one). Here are a few suggestions from me, Aaron and Ben.

Bank robber leaves behind photographic evidence.

Man branches out into new hobby.

He made away with undisclosed amount of green.

Police canopied the area.
